Oats Upma

Oats upma is one of my favorite breakfast item , it is a very nice combination of western breakfast with Indian flavors, and of course very healthy too.



Serves :- 2
Ingredients  :-
  • 1 cup of oats
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin whole
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 1/2 carrot chopped
  • 1/4 medium size onion chopped
  • 6 green beans chopped
  • 3 to 4 tsp green peas
  • 6 almonds chopped
  • 8 walnuts chopped
  • salt(according to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

  • Chop and prepare the ingredients as shown in the pictures below

  • Heat the pan and put 2 tsp oil 

  • Add mustard seeds in the pan ,when it starts to pop , add cumin seeds and stir


  • Now add  onion, ginger and green chillies as shown in the picture below

  • Cook until onions are translucent


  • Add green beans and carrots and stir for two minutes and heat should be medium

  • Add salt, turmeric powdere and red chilli powder and stir for one minute, then add salt as per taste


  • Add oats and green peas and mix well 


  • Stir on medium heat till oats are brown


  • Add water in the pan and mix it well and let it cook until water starts to boil

  • Stir for one minute and let it cook on a medium heat until there is no water left in the pan 

  • Serve with almonds and walnuts on the top
