Lauki kofta/ bottlegaurd dumplings curry

Lauki kofta is a very popular entrèe in indian cuisine for lunch and dinner. In this post I am going to share the simple and quick recipe of lauki kofta.




Serves: 4


Ingredients:
  • Bottlegaurd(lauki )
  • Cooking oil
  • 1tbsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp cumin(jeera)
  • 1 bayleaf(tejpatta)
  • 2 cardomom(green elaichi)
  • 4 cloves(laung)
  • Small cinnamon stick(dalchini)
  • A pinch of asafetida(hing) 
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated
  • 1medium size onion grated
  • 1/2 tomato chopped
  • 3 green chillies chopped
  • 2 tsp cumin(jeera) powder
  • 3 tsp coriander(dhania) powder
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 5 to 6 tbsp gram flour(besan)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • Cilantro chopped for garnishing
  • Salt (according to taste)

Process:
  • Take bottlegaurd (lauki) and peel it
                   


  • Grate it and, keep it in a bowl   
    
                     

  • Prepare other ingredients 1 tbsp ginger grated and 2 green chillies chopped for making dumplings 
               
  • Add grated ginger, chopped green chillies and grated bottlegaurd (lauki) in a bowl
               
  • Add 5 to 6 tbsp gram flour(besan) in the mixture
              
  • Add all other ingredients a pinch of hing(asafetida), 1tsp of red chilli powder, 1tsp cumin powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt(according to taste) and mix well , because bottlegaurd will release some water you can add more gram flour to make proper dumplings
              


               
  • Heat the pan and add some oil for shallow frying the dumplings    


           

  • Shallow fry until brown from one side, then flip them
                 

  •    When its done from both sides , take it out in plate
             

  • Now prepare all the ingredients for the gravy :- 1 chopped green chilli , 1/2 tomato chopped, 1 tsp ginger grated , 1 medium sides onion grated and cilantro chopped 
           

  • Heat the pan and put 2 tbsp oil and 1 tbsp ghee
          

  •  Put 1 bayleaf, 1 cardomom(elaichi), 4 cloves, little bit cinnamon stick(dalchini) and 1/4 tsp jeera
            

  • Add grated onion and stir for some time 
         

  • Cook till onion are brown then add 1 tbsp ginger and green chillies chopped and stir  

            
           


  • Add chopped tomatoes and other ingredients as following :- 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp cumin powder , 2 tsp coriander powder and salt and mix well


  • Add some water for gravy and mix well 
           
       
  • When water starts to boil then put dumplings in the gravy and let it boil for 2 to 3 min.
        

  • Add 1/2 tsp garam masala powder and chopped cilantro and mix well and turn off the stove

          
       

  • Its done and serve with chapati and rice
